Maria Kuznetsova was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to the United States as a child. “I Pledge Allegiance to the Butterfly” is the first chapter of her novel, OKSANA, BEHAVE! which will be published by Spiegel & Grau/Random House in 2019. Other chapters from the novel appear in The Southern Review and Kenyon Review Online and her other work appears or is forthcoming in The Threepenny Review, Indiana Review, and The Iowa Review.
