In the summer of 2008, filmmakers David Martinez and Shane Bauer traveled to Darfur to document the political and economic roots of the conflict in that region. Their film, A Day With the SLA, is featured in Wholphin No. 5. The following essay previously appeared, in slightly different form, in Filmmaker magazine.
