About Us

McSweeney’s is an independent nonprofit publishing company based in San Francisco. As well as operating a daily humor website, we also publish McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, The Believer, Illustoria Magazine, and an intrepid list of distinctive books of many genres. You can buy all of these things from our online store. You can support us today by making a donation. If you’d like to donate stock, airline miles for author tours, or other assets, drop a line to our Executive Director, Amanda Uhle.

McSweeney’s publishes boldly. Our books and magazines—elegantly designed, startlingly original—are like nothing else. As a nonprofit, our work is not commercially motivated. In fact, our beautiful books and magazines and the unmatched opportunities we offer readers, writers, and artists, are only possible because of donations from our readers and friends. Sales comprise about 80 percent of our budget, and contributions are the rest.

In this precarious time for independent publishing, we thank you for being an essential part of what we do and for considering a donation to support it.
