Who are you? Are you a business owner? A network manager? A company executive?
Wrong! You are a princess-dragon slayer interacting with a regular Joe from a burger restaurant! You are a child whose life dreams have not yet been realized, and who is wearing a parka in the middle of summer for some reason! You are the President of the United States of America, and you are talking to Gollum from Lord of the Rings, who just got appointed Secretary of State!
Welcome to the magical and hilarious world of improv!
Improv comedy has the power to do really anything and everything. I’m surprised they haven’t introduced it to the poverty-stricken people of Africa to end starvation! Just kidding. That was a joke! With improv, you’ll learn to make jokes just like that one.
There are really just two parts to improv comedy: the first is saying “yes,” and the second is saying “and.” But of course, it’s more complicated than just that. It’s unbelievably complicated. There are no props and no rules; but there ARE props (if you count invisible props), and there ARE rules (if you count invisible rules). Follow me? No? Well, that’s because you haven’t taken the workshop yet!
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “My business is running just fine. It doesn’t need a workshop.” Is your business running just fine? Let me give you a situation. Let’s say you run a soap business. Pretend you run a soap business and you have no fun in your life whatsoever. You go into work, and all your employees are frown-crying and visibly depressed, and you assume that’s normal because you completely lack a human spirit. Is that business running as well as it really could?
Let me give you another scenario. Let’s imagine, for a moment, you’re the top executive manager of a software development agency. You have Stu over there, and he’s great at software, but terrible at development. Then you have Larry right there, and he’s excellent at development, but has never even heard of software. Everything would be great if Stu and Larry would just collaborate and work with each other. But they never do! They just sit in cubicles, not living up to their full potential. Is that business running as well as it really could?
I think you know the answer to these questions. And the great thing is, these aren’t the only two possible scenarios in which our workshop would be relevant and helpful. The possibilities are literally endless.
The first part of this workshop features a number of trust activities that will help your employees loosen up and bond with each other. We’ve really worked out the kinks of this part of the workshop. In the past, we’ve had problems with some pretty genuine “sexual harassment lawsuits” because of some of the “body work” we incorporate into the workshop, but no longer! Just kidding. Another joke! Good jokes like that one are the cornerstone of improv.
The second part of this workshop is titled “What NOT To Do: An Improv Primer.” This is a staged performance of the worst improv comedy imaginable, all dramatized by our top improvisers. They make it up on the spot (Hey! That’s improv!) so there’s no telling exactly what you’re going to see; but I have witnessed very serious performers take all their clothes off and cry openly in the middle of the stage, so suffice it to say you’re in for a real treat.
We will end the workshop with one to thirteen breakout groups, depending on the size of your company and the amount of breakout group leaders who are able to come that day. These sessions range in content and difficulty level, but may (or may not!) include: “Agreeing Even When You Totally Disagree”; “Making Big Offers: Purple Elephants and Giant Babies”; “Commitment Isn’t Just for Nagging Women”; “The Constitution Doesn’t Apply”; “I Object!: Making Invisible Props In An Invisible Courtroom”; “Bigger Than Mime”; “Trust Falls”; “Take My Wife—Really!”; “Murder”; and so, SO many more.
You know what they say about improv: “It’s just ‘improve’ without the ‘e’!” They say that because improv exists to improve your business—and we don’t even usually need to use the recreational drug known as “E!” JUST KIDDING. Drugs are comedy gold!
No matter what kind of business you run, schedule a workshop right now. You won’t regret it. We’ll work out an individualized price for your company based on the amount of people who will take the workshop, your company’s financial ability, and a one-word suggestion from the audience.
