Subject: Dave
Hey guys, Dave’s birthday is coming up, and I was just wondering what we should get him. Does anyone know what Dave likes? I really don’t know what he likes. Tim, Ed, do you guys know what Dave likes? What did we get him last year? Did Dave like that?
So, yeah, if anyone has any suggestions for what to get Dave or has any clue what he likes, let me know. I’ll probably send an intern to get the gift later today or tomorrow.

Hey guys, not really sure what Dave likes. We talk during lunch but it’s usually work stuff, and never about what he likes or doesn’t like. Ed, you talk to him more than I do. Any word on what he likes? Either way, we should probably get him something he likes. I guess, in the end, what I’m trying to say is that because it’s his birthday, getting Dave something he likes as opposed to something he doesn’t like would be best. You know what I mean?

Boy, Dave. Hmmm. That’s a tough nut. Um, I guess I really don’t know what he likes. I forget what we got him last year, and I’m not sure if he liked it or not, but maybe he did like it? I don’t know. We could possibly get him two tickets to something. Do you guys think he would like that? Maybe tickets to a game, or a theater thing, or a comedy show, or a concert or something? Does Dave like music? Karen, you like music a lot, right? Ever talk to Dave about music? Actually, Karen, is it you who likes music or is that somebody else? Anyway, I’ve seen Dave with headphones, but I don’t know what music he likes. Maybe he’s not listening to music at all. Maybe he likes podcasts or maybe he likes something else altogether that has nothing to do with his headphones. Um, yeah, I dunno, sorry.
Anyway, whatever we decide I’ll throw in whatever.
Ed
— Hey, while I have you guys here, you want to get drinks after work Friday? Suggestions? I pretty much like whatever.

Didn’t Dave mention something about liking various things at the Christmas party? I could have sworn he did. Olson, you were there, right? Dave was sort of going on and on about things he likes, and then I talked about some stuff I like, and Olson, you started talking about things you like. Do you remember that? We also talked about things we didn’t like, but I distinctly recall talking about things we like, too.

PS: Drinks sound great! Where would you guys like to go? You want to get dinner, too? What do you guys like? I’m like Ed. I like whatever, especially good restaurants that serve good food. I like those a lot. There’s that pretty decent place that just opened. I haven’t been there but people I talk to seem to like it. But if you guys aren’t in the mood for that place and would like to go to some other place, that’s cool. I’m easy. Like I said, I like food as long as it’s good.
Just to clarify, I don’t like food that’s bad served at restaurants that are bad.

Hey guys,
I’m pretty sure Dave likes the following: food, shelter, clothing, entertainment, comfort, good times, having fun, laughter, relatives who are still alive (especially parents), hundreds of millions of dollars, good health, being warm in winter, being cool in summer, smelling decent, not looking like an idiot, relaxation, plates for when he eats, cups for when he drinks, big cities that aren’t too crowded or expensive and are filled with culture, interesting things (especially things Dave finds interesting), breathing without the help of any sort of oxygen tank or respirator or tube, not ever being imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit, and happiness.
Hope that helps.

Dinner: Oh, my God. I’m totally on the same page as Ben. I totally like good food served at good restaurants and vice versa.

We should definitely get Dave one of the things Olson said. Good thinking, Olson!
In terms of dinner I’d eat American, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Cuban, Moroccan, Peruvian, Sushi, Mexican, French, or Thai. I also like places that serve soup, sandwiches, pasta, steaks, potatoes, big salads, appetizers, French fries, chicken, and meals that are both large and small (I actually like meat a lot, and vegetables, and grains too. Also fruit and fortified breads. Sorry if that’s weird or if anyone else is allergic to those things, but if there is any place that serves meat and vegetables and grains or fortified breads I would definitely be down for a place like that).
For dessert, I like stuff that tastes really good.
Paul
P.S. Oh shoot, I just realized I can’t make it to dinner. I would have liked to but I can’t. I like dinner, though. A lot. Especially when I’m hungry.
